This month, we took a big step in making quality digital education more accessible in Bhutan. We launched the Eduten platform in several Monastic schools, and our Business Head of Southeast Asia, Avan, led the process!
This launch is part of our efforts for providing education as a tool for societal improvement, where we work alongside UNICEF Global Learning Innovation Hub and Bhutan’s Ministry of Education.
Our goal with Monastic schools is to provide students in these spiritual learning environments with effective tools to develop their math skills. We’re offering the platform at no cost so these students can benefit from the same learning innovations that are transforming classrooms around the world.
During Avan’s visit, he led a series of workshops with 12 teachers from 6 Monastic schools. They were trained on how to integrate Eduten into their classrooms, and set up lessons and exercises specifically for their students. These teachers will now provide more personalized learning, which is especially important in mixed-age classroom environments.
The first monastic school to implement Eduten was Paro Monastic School, where 28 students from pre-primary to grade 3 began using the platform. Both the young monks and teachers gave fantastic feedback, and we were especially happy to hear the school had no problems adapting the platform for different age groups.
UNICEF’s Bhutan Head, along with key officials from the Monastic Education department, attended the trainings. This partnership is important for mathematics education in Bhutan, extending digital learning to students in remote and often underserved areas.
We’re happy to continue our work in Bhutan and can’t wait to see the impact Eduten will have on Monastic schools across the country.
